Kelowna Kinesiology

Get moving again after an injury.

I am Aaron Buat, a kinesiologist in Kelowna. If you have an ICBC claim I am an approved provider and I bill ICBC directly, so you are not chasing receipts while you recover.

Two ways people work with me

Pick the one that sounds like you. Both start with a conversation, not a commitment.

Injury recovery

If you have an ICBC claim, I am an approved kinesiologist and I bill ICBC directly. We start with an assessment of how you are moving now, then build the exercise program around what actually hurts and what you need to get back to. Most people arrive on a referral from a physiotherapist or a doctor. You do not need one to call me.

Personal training

One to one training for strength, mobility and staying out of the physio's office. Same approach as the rehab work: I assess how you move first, then write the program around it. It suits people coming back from an old injury, training toward a season or an event, or anyone who would rather be coached than guess. I train people in the gym, at home, or over video if that is easier.

The part nobody explains

What a kinesiologist actually does

A kinesiologist is a movement specialist. Most people meet one for the first time after an injury and are not sure how it differs from the other two people they have been sent to. Here is the short version.

A physiotherapist
Diagnoses and treats the injury, often hands on, usually in a clinic.
A personal trainer
Coaches general fitness toward a goal you set.
A kinesiologist

Works in between. I measure how you move, find what is limiting it, and build the exercise program that brings the range and the strength back. Then I run that program with you, session by session, and change it as you change.

You will be doing the work. I am watching the movement while you do it, and adjusting it in real time. That is the whole job.

Services

What I work on

Injury prevention and rehabilitative support

Keeping a problem from coming back. I look at the movement that produced it, then load it gradually until it holds up under normal life again.

Individualized exercise programs

Your program is written for your body, your history and the equipment you actually have. It gets rewritten as you progress, not handed to you once.

Performance enhancement

For athletes and for anyone whose goal has a date attached to it. Strength, power and movement quality, planned backward from when you need to be ready.

Movement assessments

A structured look at range of motion, strength through that range, and where your body is compensating. Every program I write starts here.

Chronic and acute symptom management

Long standing pain and stiffness, or a fresh flare up. We work around what hurts, rebuild capacity in what does not, and bring the sore side back in when it is ready.

About

Ten years, mostly on a gym floor

I have been practicing kinesiology full time for ten years, and I have been a practicing member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists since 2017.

I work out of four gyms around Kelowna, and I will come to you if getting to a gym is the hard part right now. Most weeks I run between thirty and forty sessions, which is a long way of saying I spend my days watching people move rather than sitting behind a desk.

Most of my rehab clients come to me with an ICBC claim, usually referred by a physiotherapist or a doctor. The rest of my week is private training. The two are more similar than they sound: assess first, write the program around the person, then keep adjusting.

Or I come to you

In your home
If stairs, driving or pain make getting to a gym unrealistic right now.
Outdoors and mobile
Wherever the session makes more sense than a gym floor.
Over video
When travel is the obstacle rather than the movement.
